Syria reopens port adjacent to Jordan, two countries emphasi

Damascus/Amman, October 28 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian Transitional Government Port and Customs General Administration announced in the early morning of the 28th that the Nasib Port adjacent to Jordan on the Syrian side will resume normal passenger and commercial transportation from the morning of the 28th. On the same day, Jordan and Syria issued a joint statement emphasizing the need to jointly address challenges such as terrorism.

According to the UK based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the Nasib port in Syria reopened on the morning of the 28th. The previous day, the closure of the port caused hundreds of trucks, cars, and passenger buses to be stranded on the road leading to the Jaber port in Jordan.

On the early morning of the 28th, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a joint statement saying that Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Safadi had a phone call with Syrian Transitional Government Foreign Minister Shebani on the 27th to discuss the follow-up impact of the Jordanian armed forces' airstrikes on the Islamic State organization on the 26th.

The statement said that Safadi and Shebani emphasized that Jordan and Syria work closely together to address challenges, with the most important being to combat terrorism, cross-border drug and weapons smuggling through effective and sustainable institutional channels. Both sides agree to establish a joint security committee to review all details and facts of recent actions and follow up on their impact, establish on-site and intelligence coordination mechanisms, respond to terrorist threats, ensure the maintenance of Syrian sovereignty, and protect civilians.

On the 26th, the Jordanian Armed Forces issued a statement saying that, in coordination with the Syrian Transitional Government, the Jordanian Air Force bombed and destroyed terrorist organization strongholds in southern Syria, causing multiple deaths and injuries to members of the terrorist organization. The Syrian Transitional Government denies the Jordanian side's claim, stating that Jordan did not coordinate with the Syrian side before carrying out this military operation.

On the early morning of the 27th, the Syrian Transitional Government issued a statement stating that the Jordanian Air Force attacked multiple locations in southern Syria's Daraa and Suwayda provinces on the evening of the 26th, resulting in 7 deaths, including women and children, and 3 injuries. Subsequently, the Syrian Transitional Government announced the closure of the Naxib port within Syria on the 27th, suspending two-way passenger traffic and commercial transportation.

The Jordanian side corresponding to the Nasib Port in Syria is the Jaber Port. The Nasib Jabir Port is the main channel for direct trade between Syria and Jordan, and is also one of the most important land ports in the Middle East.
